A little kitten bounced back from the edge and found a canine friend who guarded her everywhere she went.
A small tabby kitten was taken to Warwick Veterinary Hospital after it was found with an injured leg. The kitten, which was less than 200 grams, had an incredible will to live.
The veterinary team determined that the only way to save the kitten was to remove the severely infected leg. They prepared the kitten for surgery, and the tiny bundle of fur gained weight in just one day.
She was the youngest kitten to have major orthopedic surgery in the hospital. The tabby pulled through and perked up like a champion. “This kitten (called Peggy) is the epitome of strength,” veterinarian Kate Hayes told Love Meow.
“She got stronger and stronger every day. We are so overwhelmed by her bravery.”
Kate offered to take care of the kitten so it could relax in a loving home. Little did Peggy know that a dog lover was expecting her arrival. Moon, the 8-year-old dog, has a weakness for needy kittens. He has been helping Kate with her care for many years.
“He’s the kindest hearted dog I’ve ever known. He’s helped over 200 animals that have come through our home. He gave them love, comfort and cuddles while I made them strong and ready to move into their new homes to go. “
There’s no exception with the new kitten in town. As soon as Peggy arrived, Moon was ready to help and get the little one back to health.

He stayed by her bed and watched over her every step. He did not leave her side while she recovered from the surgery. When Peggy squealed, Moon would cry with her and try to comfort her by licking her face.
“Moon is such a kind nature,” added Kate.
The cute dog insisted on keeping Peggy company all the time while she continued to heal. One night the kitten had to be gone. When they were reunited the next morning, Moon threw his arms around her and the two snuggled into a storm.
Kate brings the kitten to work so that she can continue to be cared for around the clock. “Moon is never far from Peggy, even at work he’s always by her side and guarding her. He’s the best bodyguard a kitten can have,” shared Kate Love Meow.
As Peggy began to venture out of her nest and waddle, Moon kept an eye on her, making sure she was safe. If Peggy fell he would run to see if she was okay.
Cheech, the cute one-eyed pug, loves little Peggy and helps out whenever Moon needs a paw.
“One of them is always with her. I think Peggy thinks she’s part human, part dog, and part cat. One thing I know for sure is that she doesn’t think she’s any different,” Kate said Love meow.
Having three legs doesn’t seem to slow her down. “She loves to cuddle and purr. Her favorite place has been my handbag since she was 10 days old. I brought it everywhere in my pocket because she needed bottle feeding.”
The little tabby has come a long way and thrives in grooming. In two weeks she will be ready to find a forever loving home.
“Four weeks ago, Peggy’s life was uncertain. She had massive surgery when she was only 10 days old and we didn’t know if she would survive. To this day, she’s learning to walk on three legs surrounded by friends.” Cheers everyone Step to which she is taking. “
Peggy also learns to eat from a dish like a big kitten, with lots of encouragement from her loving foster family.
Moon continues to protect and protect them everywhere and shower them with love.
