To celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2021, BirdLife Middle East and the Migratory Soaring Birds project on the subject of “Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird”, are pleased to announce the BirdLife Middle East Photo Contest (hereinafter “the Contest”). The aim is to photograph migratory birds during their migration.


The competition is open to all participants from all over the world.


We are looking for stunning digital photos that show migratory birds during their migration. We especially look forward to seeing photos of birds hovering near power lines, wind turbines, waste disposal facilities, tourism facilities, and agricultural sites.

Photos of captive birds will not be accepted.

Photos should not be digitally altered and should accurately reproduce the subject and scene as they appeared.

Photos should be entered for the first time. Photos submitted to other competitions will not be accepted.

Photos that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the sole discretion of the jury.


All photos must be emailed to BirdLife Middle East at [email protected] You need to include “WMBD2021” in the subject line and provide the following details:

  • Name of the copyright holder, including how the photo should be credited
  • Caption for the photo, including the subject of the photo,
  • The location where the photo was taken.

Each person cannot enter more than three photos. It must be your own work and submitted with all of the above information.

Eligibility and assessment

To ensure eligibility for the competition, all entries should submit a photo of the highest quality – ideally 300 dpi (2550 pixels wide and 3300 pixels high) with a minimum of 150 dpi (1275 x 1650 pixels). Photos should be between 5MB and 10MB in size. The preferred file format is JPEG.

The BirdLife Middle East jury decides on the eligibility of the winners at its own discretion. The BirdLife Middle East jury selects the winner based on technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic performance and quality.

Ten of the photos will be selected to be judged by fans on the BirdLife Middle East Facebook page based on the number of likes received and to determine a “Facebook Favorite Award”. In the event of a tie, the BirdLife Middle East jury will select the winner.

All judges’ decisions are final.


Entries can be submitted from May 6, 2021. The closing date for entries is May 15, 2021 at 11:59 am Amman Daylight Time.

The public vote for the Facebook favorite winner will take place for at least one week and will end on May 30, 2021 at the latest. The winners will be announced on June 5, 2021 on World Environment Day. Winners will be notified by email by June 4, 2021.

BirdLife Middle East reserves the right to adjust deadlines for reasons beyond its immediate control.


In addition to receiving a gift from the Migratory Soaring Birds project, the winning photo will also be displayed on the Birdlife International website and social media platforms, as well as the Migratory Soaring Birds project website and social media platforms.


You retain all rights to the photos you submit – including ownership, if applicable. However, by entering the Contest, each entrant grants BirdLife a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive license, including all rights to sub-license, to exercise all rights of any kind or kind that are now and hereinafter provided for by the copyright laws of all countries in and to the photos entered and the associated descriptions.
