The Colin’s Angelfish is one of those dwarfs from Centropyge that is not necessarily that rare, but is hardly known outside of puristic Pomacanthidae circles. But in another first for Mr. Su and Bali Aquarich, they are the first to cross the finish line again with another exotic fish species that is breeding Colin’s angelfish Centropyge colini for the first time.
Due to the weather conditions in ‘El Nina’, which resulted in very changeable weather with sudden temperature changes, this spawning time was complicated for Bali Aquarich. The oscillation between the hot climate at sunrise and the rapid drop in temperature under cloudy skies caused serious complications when rearing larvae on Bali Aquarich. The fish larvae are very sensitive to changes in temperature. If after these drops they develop parasitic disease, their treatment becomes very difficult as they do not support drugs well.
These 1 inch teens are a perfect replica of their parents.
These hurdles and challenges have not stopped Mr. Su from completing the first larval cycle of Centropyge colini, a very rare and underrated fish. This is a species of fish that lives in deep caves and overhangs, is very difficult to catch and acclimate. It is a very shy fish that needs expert care to thrive in an aquarium setting.
The color development of this fish is just perfect!
Even this 1 inch juvenile is very sensitive compared to other juvenile fish. We just caught it and put it in the photoshoot tank thinking we lost it a couple of times. We floated flat on the surface but weren’t dead yet. This is very good news for all of us dedicated angel fish freaks! As a captive bred Colin’s Angel, this is definitely the solution to finally being able to keep this amazing fish for the long term.
Cant wait to get my hands on one of these!
Not many of these Colin angelfish have been bred, so the starting price will likely still be high. We have to be patient for a while before they hit our fish store exhibits. But it is coming! Stay tuned for a slew of updates on newly caught farmed fish brought to you from Bali Aquarich.
