5 ways to celebrate the month of 2019 outdoors

The US Senate officially declared June 2019 the month of 2019 outdoors! June is one of the best months of the year for families. School is over, summer has come and the family holidays begin. The Month of the Great Outdoors is a celebration of the great outdoors in America and all of the benefits it brings into our lives. Not only is it a place to exercise, relax, and explore, but it also offers extensive health, social, and economic benefits. Here are six ways to celebrate the month of 2019 outdoors with your family.

1. Just go out!

Leave the phone at home and spend lots of time outdoors with your family to do your favorite pastime. Take a picnic, take a bike ride, or just hang out in your yard together. According to the Harvard Health Publishing article, one way to improve the health of your children is by spending plenty of time outdoors, appreciating the outdoors, exposing yourself to the sun, doing sports, and socializing with other children.

2. #EscapeTheIndoors

Share your adventures on social media with the hashtag #EscapeTheIndoors and inspire friends and family to celebrate the great outdoors month. Take part in an outdoor family challenge and plan to get outside for 30 minutes a day during Great Outdoors Month 2019 and beyond. It can be as simple as a daily walk or it can be adventurous and trying out new activities together.

3. Boating or fishing

With thousands of lakes in the US, the fun on the water is not too far for anyone. Share summer skills and make memories for a lifetime, teach your friends or children how to prepare the ideal bait, how to cast or how to prepare your boat for fishing. Find places to go boating and fishing and have a good time with your friends or family. Share your fishing adventure with other anglers.

4. Visit a national park near you

Our nation’s national parks are treasures and fantastic learning opportunities for children. Explore open spaces, spot wildlife and learn about the history of our land and why preserving public areas is vital for future generations to enjoy. Get outdoors and visit the National Park Service to find a park near you.

5. Take part in the Great American Campout

Camp out on June 22nd, 2019 and join thousands of campers in the Great American Campout. Escape the house and camp with your family and friends this summer.

The best thing about the National Month of the Great Outdoors is that everyone has free access to nature at any time. Make it a goal to go outside with your family year round. We only have one “nature”. When children learn to enjoy it, they naturally become those who will protect it for generations to come.
